Grand Prize

The grand prize will be a maximum of $5000. (This is the maximum winning amount permitted without the requirement of a mandatory tax withholding.) If fewer than 400 tickets are sold, winner will receive 50% of the gross ticket sales.  Odds of winning will vary based on the number of $20/1 ticket or $50/3 tickets sold.

2017 Raffle Rules

Raffle Sponsor:  Rockfish Valley Community Center (RVCC)

1) Each purchaser of a raffle ticket must be at least 18 years old and only one individual's name may be associated with each ticket. All federal, state and local rules shall apply to the raffle. Tickets may be purchased on the website or in person from an RVCC Board Member or staff member in the RVCC offices, or at the Treasure Chest Thrift Store.  Payments for online tickets may only be by PayPal account. Payments made at the Treasure Chest or in the RVCC office may be paid by cash, check or any major credit card.  Any credit or debit card payment that is denied shall disqualify the pending purchase and any ticket issued for such purchase will be forfeited by the purchaser. All online ticket sales shall be by the internet at the raffle website at  All e-mail communications will be sent to the e-mail address provided by a purchaser as part of the purchase. Such communications shall include purchase confirmation and raffle ticket number. Purchaser is required to provide to the Rockfish Valley Community Center ("Raffle Sponsor") a valid, functioning e-mail address and mailing address. The Raffle Sponsor, its processing agents and their respective directors, officers, and members assume no responsibility for incorrect, invalid, terminated or non-functioning e-mail or mailing addresses or lost, incomplete, late, illegible, or undelivered entries or entries without complete, acceptable payment. 

2) By submitting an entry, each purchaser acknowledges having read and agreed to abide by these Official Raffle Rules. 

3) Once a ticket has been purchased, it is non-refundable except in event the raffle is cancelled (see below).  Although a ticket may be transferred, the Raffle Sponsor shall communicate only with the ticket purchaser as shown on its records until proof of the ticket transfer is provided to the Raffle Sponsor. Any transferee of a ticket must be eligible under these Rules in order to win under any drawing. Odds of winning depend on the number of tickets sold.  If fewer tickets are sold, the odds improve, based on the final number of tickets sold.  Odds change as more tickets are purchased.

4) The winner will receive title to the prize, subject to all applicable taxes and delivery fees. 

5) Each ticket shall be sequentially numbered from the first ticket sold through the last ticket number sold.  The raffle period shall be from the date the first ticket is sold, through May 27, 2017 or such earlier date as the maximum number of tickets is sold. Online ticket sales may be closed at any time before the drawing. The drawing will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017. Ticket purchase deadlines, and drawing dates, times and locations, may be extended or changed at the Raffle Sponsor's discretion.

6) U.S. Postal regulations prohibit the mailing of raffle tickets. Each online purchaser will be notified via e-mail of the purchaser's unique raffle ticket number(s).The original printed raffle ticket will be retained by the Raffle Sponsor and the stub entered into the drawing along with the stubs of all other tickets sold.  Online purchasers may obtain their ticket stub by visiting the Raffle Sponsor office, or may pick it up at the “will-call” table at the “Celebrate Rockfish” event the night of the drawing.

7) At the raffle drawing, the winning raffle ticket stub shall be chosen by picking it from a large container containing all ticket stubs, thoroughly mixed. The drawing shall take place at 7:30 pm EDT on May 27, 2017 at the “Celebrate Rockfish” event at 190 Rockfish School Ln, in Afton Virginia. The winner does not need to be present at the drawing to win. 

8) The holder of the winning ticket, if not present for the drawing, shall be notified by telephone and/or e-mail and Certified U.S. Mail at the address provided by the purchaser. The winning ticket number and name of the winner and their respective cities (but not addresses) shall also be placed on the Raffle web page immediately after the drawing. This information may also be publicized in other media. 

9) The winner of the drawing shall be required to provide the Raffle Sponsor with a signed statement confirming their eligibility under these Rules and applicable law, proof of age and social security number, and a release confirming the Raffle Sponsor's permission to use the winner's name, city, state, and likeness in media releases and other publicity. 

10) As a general matter, federal and state income tax and state sales tax can be between 35% to 50% of the value of the raffle prize. Raffle Sponsor will be responsible for collecting these tax payments from the winner, and submitting them to the tax authority.  Please consult with your own tax advisor. The winner will be entirely and solely responsible for paying any such taxes to the Raffle Sponsor. 

11) Purchasers of tickets, by participating in the raffle, release the Raffle Sponsor, its directors, officers, members and agents from any and all liability, loss or claim arising out of any raffle prize, expressly waive any such claim and agree that the liability, if any, of the Raffle Sponsor, its directors, officers, members and agents shall be limited to the raffle ticket price paid. In case of any dispute regarding the conduct of the raffle, the decision of the Raffle Sponsor shall be final.

12) In the event the raffle is canceled for any reason, raffle ticket holders will have three options of the disposition of the ticket price paid:

  • A full refund of the ticket price may be paid to the ticket purchaser; 
  • The ticket purchaser may opt to donate the ticket price to the Raffle Sponsor.  In this event, the donor will receive a tax exemption letter from the Raffle Sponsor acknowledging the donation.
