Exhibit Opening and Artist's Reception
"In any genre--figurative, landscape, still-life or abstract--my approach is an inelegant process of applying paint and then making "corrections", without attempting to entirely hide them. Rather, the strokes, wipes and scrapes are made so as to leave behind some record of the painting process; pentimenti they are called. Oil paint is especially well-suited to this as it can be used transparently or opaquely. As a practical matter, the painting is finished when the last, say, five attempts to improve it have failed. Then, the "fixes" are fixed and the painting declares itself done." --Jim Brewer
Come and ponder the abstract paintings of local artist Jim Brewer throughout the month of January, in RVCC’s main hall. All are welcome to attend a wine and cheese reception introducing the new exhibit on Saturday, January 5th from 4:00pm until 5:30 pm. There is no charge, but donations are always appreciated.
Jim lives in beautiful Fortune’s Cove with his lovely wife and daughter. With no formal art training, he borrows liberally from Matisse, deKooning, Bonnard, and Diebenkorn, and primarily works in oils.
