Beginning October 5: An Introduction to the Occult with Mark Graver
Mondays October 5—November 23, 5:00pm—6:00pm, in Rockfish University. Fee: no charge. Pre-registration requested, but walk-ins are welcome. Partly informational, partly experimental, this 8-week workshop explores the relationship between “ritual” magick and the mind. Foundational concepts by renowned occultists such as Aleister Crowley, John Dee, and Edward Kelly will be presented. Occultism is primarily a science and not a religion; Graver aims to show how occult practices are compatible with all religious thought and discipline due to the scientific aims of the occultist as well as the scientific classification of its various components. The classroom will be encouraged to spend time in intentional meditation, as this is the actual work of the occultist - to connect with the unconscious and make it intelligible to the conscious mind. There lie all the secrets of the universe that are available to the individual. The balance between instruction and exploration/experimentation will be dictated by the needs of the class. From wax and metal sigils to a circular, black obsidian mirror, there is much to be experienced even if merely for the novelty of it. As a facilitator and instructor, Graver brings an easy-going nature, diplomacy, and a commitment to the advancement of the individual. The goal is to create a fun, rich, and adventuresome workshop that makes occult practices more interesting, sensible, and exciting.
