Friday, June 19: Coffee House Music Series
The Carol McAvoy Project
Like many good things, the band started around the kitchen table. There were just three at first: a couple of old friends who had mixed it up musically over the years, and an empathetic newcomer, wanting to build a new group from the ground up. There were pop-jazz standards, classic rock, funky-folk tunes, and blues, infused with their own kaleidoscope of rhythms. There was an emphasis on collaboration, creativity, and exploring recognizable songs that they could put their own spin on. Since then, the Carol McAvoy Project has taken on two more members, and now they are making the move from the living room and front porch to local stages. CMP is: Carol McAvoy—Vocals, Larry Swift—Keyboards and Trombone, Chris Yung—Guitar, Jim Robertson—Bass, and Robert Ballard—Drums.
"The things we like most about this band are: our band-mates, the creative arrangements of mostly recognizable songs, we are not so loud that you can't talk to a friend while we play, and we have a set with funky enough grooves that people want to get up and dance!"—The Carol McAvoy Project
